2008, Pilgrimage to Tibet
Friday May 9 to Monday June 2 from Kathmandu
click for large viewVisit the sacred sites of Tibet with highly qualified Buddhist teacher, Ven. Amy. The format of the trip will follow that of our annual pilgrimage to India starting with a week-long meditation retreat at Kopan Monastery in Nepal. After visiting Buddhist sites around Kathmandu such as the self-emanation of the Buddha Tara at the village of Pharping, and Kopan's sister nunnery, Kachoe Ghakyil the group will fly to Gongkar Airport in the Yarlung Tsangpo Valley. There spend two weeks visiting Dharma sites in Central Tibet such as Samye Tibet's first monastery, Sera Monastery and the Potala Palace.
SPECIAL PRICING FOR EARLY SIGN-UPS: Price not including air roundtrip to Lhasa is $4000 if you sign-up before Dec. 1, 2007 and share a room. After Dec. 1 the price is $4200. Estimated air is $1200-1400 from the U.S. flying coach on a good airline. Roundtrip air from Kathmandu to Lhasa is estimated at $650. You will also need to budget for travel insurance, visas, airport tax, monastery donations etc. A total budget of $6500 would give you extra money for buying souvenirs etc.
TIBET Pilgrimage Itinerary and Information
2008, Pilgrimage to India
Wednesday October 22 to Friday November 14 from Kathmandu
This annual pilgrimage to the sacred Buddhist sites of Nepal and India is led by Dharma Teacher Ven. Robina Courtin following the advice of her teachers, regarding the practices to be done on pilgrimage. Ven. Robina will give daily Dharma talks and lead meditation sessions for the group. There will also be local English speaking guides accompanying the group.
The group will meet in Kathmandu and start with a week-long meditation retreat at Kopan Monastary in Nepal. There will be excursions to nearby places of interest such as Bodhanath and Swambhunath Stupas before starting a traditional pilgrimage to India visiting the places of Buddha's birth (Lumbini), death (Kushingar), enlightenment (Bodhgaya), and first sermon (Sarnath).
The pilgrimage is open for anyone to join, but good health and a serious interest in Tibetan Buddhism are necessary to make it a positive experience.
