The retreat portion of the Pilgrimage takes place at Kopan Monastery in Kathmandu. In the past some pilgrimage participants have stayed on in Nepal to take the November course at Kopan after the pilgrimage. The Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT) is an international organization, founded in 1975 by Lama Thubten Yeshe (1935-1984), a Tibetan Buddhist monk. The Foundation is devoted to the transmission of the Mahayana Buddhist tradition and values worldwide through teaching, meditation and community service. The organization is based on the Buddhist tradition of Lama Tsong Khapa of Tibet as taught by founder Lama Thubten Yeshe and spiritual director Lama Zopa Rinpoche. http://www.fpmt.org
